Buying with confidence · Sacramento

See every number before you ever visit.

The hardest part of buying a used car usually isn’t choosing the car. It’s not knowing what the real out-the-door price will be until you’re already sitting at the desk. We moved that part online.

Before you drive out to El Camino Ave, you can see how your out-the-door price comes together — fee by fee — and study the full F&I protection menu from your own couch. No appointment, no salesperson hovering, no pressure to decide anything. Just the real numbers, on your time. Here’s how the tools work and what you can do with them.

Two tools, one goal: no surprises

We built two web tools that live alongside our live inventory. Together they answer the two questions almost every buyer has before they commit: what’s my real drive-out number, and what are all these add-ons at the finance desk?

The Deal Builder

See exactly how your out-the-door price is assembled — sale price, every fee, your local tax rate, an optional trade-in, and a payment estimate across different terms. Every line is visible, nothing is buried.

See how your deal is built →

The F&I Menu

Explore every protection product — service contracts, GAP, tire & wheel, and more — with each tier and what it covers laid out in plain English. Study it before you sign, not in a rush at the desk.

How the Deal Builder works

Three simple steps take you from a vehicle to a complete drive-out estimate.

01

Pick your vehicle

Browse our live inventory, filter by body type, and see real photos and actual mileage. Choose the one you want to price.

02

Add your details

Your location sets the correct local sales-tax rate. Have a trade-in? Add it, along with any payoff balance.

03

See your drive-out

Every fee breaks out line by line. Adjust the loan term, add optional protection, or price it as a cash deal.

What’s actually in an out-the-door price

“Out-the-door” simply means the full amount to take the car home — the sale price plus the fees and taxes every California dealer collects. The difference is whether you see them upfront. Here’s what those line items are:

  • Vehicle sale price The agreed price of the car itself.
  • Dealer document fee A processing fee for preparing your paperwork, capped by California law.
  • DMV electronic registration The fee to file your registration with the DMV electronically.
  • Smog Smog inspection and certification where applicable to the vehicle.
  • Title & registration State title and registration costs, estimated from the sale price.
  • Sales tax Calculated from your address — which is why we ask where you are.

When you build a deal, you see each of these as its own number. There’s no “we’ll total it up in the office” moment, because the totaling already happened on your screen. All figures are estimates until your final paperwork is prepared.

Understanding the F&I menu

After you agree on a price, the finance office presents optional protection products. At many dealerships that conversation moves fast and the numbers come at you verbally. We publish ours instead, so you can decide what makes sense on your own time. Coverage comes in three levels:

Essential
Major mechanical

Engine, transmission, and drive axle — the core powertrain. If it’s on the list, it’s covered.

Preferred
Comprehensive

Everything in Essential plus electrical, climate, fuel, and steering — the failures most common on used cars.

Complete
Virtuall Bumper-to-bumper

Covered unless specifically excluded, including hi-tech and driver-assist sensors. The broadest protection available.

Alongside the service contract sit optional add-ons — GAP, tire & wheel, dent & ding, key replacement, window tint, and paint protection film. Every product is optional. You can choose all of them, none of them, or any mix, and the menu records a formal decline on anything you pass on. Many of these products are refundable on a pro-rata basis per the program terms if you cancel later. See the full menu →

Common questions

Does building a deal online commit me to anything?
No. Everything you build is an estimate to help you understand the numbers — it is not a binding offer, a credit application, or a purchase agreement. You’re free to explore as much as you like and walk away.
Are the monthly payment figures final?
They’re estimates. The actual rate, term, and payment depend on the lender and are subject to credit approval. The tool lets you see how different terms and down payments change the picture so there are no surprises — but your final terms come from the approved financing.
Do I have to buy any of the protection products?
No. F&I products are optional. Federal law prohibits a lender from requiring them as a condition of financing, and California reinforces that. Sign for what you want and decline the rest.
Is there any cost to use these tools?
None. The Deal Builder and the F&I menu are free to use, with no obligation. They exist to make the buying process clearer, whether or not you end up buying from us.
What if I’m only browsing, or just want your best price?
That’s exactly what these tools are for. Whether you’re comparing options or ready to move, you see real, itemized numbers either way — no pressure and no pre-qualifying required just to look.
Can I handle most of this from home?
Yes. You can explore the menu, build your numbers, and submit your details online, and our team will pick up prepared rather than starting from scratch. We work with a wide range of credit unions and lenders — you can read more about credit-union financing here — and when financing terms align, same-day delivery may be possible, subject to approval. When you’re ready to drive one, here’s our guide to a good test drive.

Buying a used car can feel overwhelming, especially with so many options in the Sacramento area. Whether you’re shopping in Roseville, Elk Grove, or right here in the capital city, asking the right questions can save you time, money, and headaches down the road. At Prestige Wholesale, we believe in transparency—and that starts before you even step on the lot. Here are 5 essential questions every buyer should ask when shopping for a pre-owned vehicle.

1. What’s the Vehicle’s History?

A clean Carfax or AutoCheck report can offer peace of mind. Look for red flags like previous accidents, salvage titles, or odometer rollbacks. If a dealer doesn’t provide the history report? That’s your cue to walk away.Pro Tip: At Prestige Wholesale, we offer free vehicle history reports on every unit we sell.

2. Is the Vehicle Being Sold As-Is?

Most independent dealerships—including ours—sell vehicles as-is, meaning the buyer is responsible for any future maintenance or repairs. That’s why it’s smart to do your own due diligence: bring a trusted mechanic to inspect the car or schedule a third-party pre-purchase inspection before making your decision. We encourage buyers to take their time, ask questions, and feel fully informed before moving forward.

3. What’s the Total Cost Out-the-Door?

Many buyers focus on sticker price, but the real number that matters is the “out-the-door” price. That includes sales tax, DMV fees, registration, and any dealer charges. Ask early so there are no surprises later.Quick Tip: We offer flexible financing options and work with a wide range of credit unions through the CUDL network. Capital One pre-approvals are welcome too.

4. Can I See the Vehicle in Person Before Committing?

Online listings are a great starting point, but nothing beats seeing a vehicle in person. Photos and descriptions only go so far—walking around the car, sitting in the driver’s seat, and checking out the details firsthand can make all the difference. Ask the dealership if you can stop by and take a closer look before making any decisions. At Prestige Wholesale, we’re happy to show you the car in person—no pressure, no appointment needed.

5. Is There Flexibility with Trade-Ins or Payment Options?

Even if you’re not trading in, it’s helpful to know how a dealership handles different payment structures. Ask if they accept trade-ins, offer outside financing, or can work with the budget you have in mind.Looking to value your trade? We’ll give you a fair, competitive offer and apply it directly toward your next vehicle.

Final Thoughts: Be Informed, Not Intimidated

Sacramento’s used car market is competitive, but that doesn’t mean you have to settle for high-pressure sales or vague answers.
