Frequently Asked Questions

Sacramento · Since 2012

Everything you’d ask a friend in the business.

Buying a used car comes with real questions. Below are the ones we hear most — answered plainly, with the facts that actually matter for your decision.

01 · Visiting Us

Where to find us, when we’re open

Where are you located?

What are your hours?

We’re open 7 days a week, year-round:

  • Monday – Saturday: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Sunday: 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM

We’re closed only on Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.

02 · The Buying Process

How a deal actually goes

How do test drives work?

Simple and quick:

  1. We scan your valid driver’s license
  2. Verify proof of auto insurance
  3. Have you sign a brief test drive agreement

Then you’re free to test drive the vehicle.

Can I have my own mechanic inspect the vehicle?

Yes, and we encourage it. A pre-purchase inspection helps you buy with confidence.

You may:

  • Bring your mechanic directly to our dealership for an on-site inspection
  • Take the vehicle to any certified mechanic within 15 miles of our Sacramento location
  • Have us drop the vehicle off on your behalf if we have enough staff on hand
How long does the buying process take?

Most deals close the same day:

  • Cash purchase: typically 60–90 minutes from agreement to drive-off.
  • Financed purchase: typically 90–120 minutes — application, terms, signing.
  • Out-of-state purchase: 1–3 business days for title and registration paperwork, plus your transport time.

We work methodically. We don’t fast-track documents that legally need their time, and we don’t pad the visit with steps you don’t need.

What if I’m buying from out of state?

Out-of-state buyers are welcome, and we regularly work with customers across the country.

Title & registration:

  • If you’re financing, the lender holds the title until the loan is paid off, just as they would in your home state.
  • If you’re purchasing outright, we complete the out-of-state sale process. Once processed, the title is sent to you via FedEx so you can register the vehicle in your home state.

Taxes & shipping:

  • When a vehicle is shipped out of California, buyers typically avoid California sales tax — a key reason many out-of-state customers choose delivery.
  • Most buyers arrange transport through uShip.com, where licensed, insured, and bonded carriers provide competitive quotes.

Flying in instead? We offer curbside pickup from Sacramento International Airport, 20 minutes from our dealership. Your vehicle will be detailed, fueled, and ready when you arrive.

Do you offer vehicle delivery or shipping?

Yes. For long-distance or out-of-state purchases, most buyers arrange transport through uShip.com, where licensed, insured, and bonded carriers provide competitive quotes so you can choose the option that fits your timeline and budget.

For buyers local to the Sacramento area, limited courtesy delivery may be available within a 20–30 mile radius on a case-by-case basis, depending on scheduling and vehicle availability. Ask and we’ll let you know what’s possible.

03 · Financing & Credit

How financing works here

Do you offer financing?

Yes. While we do not offer in-house financing, we work directly with a curated network of established credit unions and trusted lenders that report to all major credit bureaus.

We handle the financing process directly in-house on their behalf, acting as an extension of these institutions. That means a one-stop experience — no back-and-forth between banks, no separate appointments, no juggling multiple offices. We guide the approval, structure the terms, and coordinate everything here with you.

If you already have financing in place through your own bank or credit union, you’re welcome to use that as well.

How much do I need for a down payment?

Most lenders prefer around 10% down, but depending on credit strength, $0 down options may be available.

Putting more down can help:

  • Lower your monthly payment
  • Improve approval odds
  • Reduce overall interest paid

We’ll help structure the deal based on your goals and budget.

What do I need to qualify?

Requirements vary depending on how you’re purchasing and your individual profile.

For cash purchases, a valid government-issued ID, driver’s license, or passport and standard insurance are typically sufficient.

For financing, documentation is reviewed case by case and depends on factors such as credit history, prior auto loan performance, and lender guidelines. In some situations, lenders may request proof of income or residence.

We work with 30+ trusted lenders, assist military members through USAA, and regularly help customers across a wide range of credit profiles find solutions that fit their situation.

What if I’m self-employed?

No problem. Most lenders will request:

  • Your 2–3 most recent years of tax returns, or
  • 3–6 months of recent bank statements to verify income

We’ll guide you through exactly what’s needed.

Do I need insurance?

Financed vehicles: Full coverage insurance is required before delivery.

Cash purchases: Liability coverage is sufficient.

04 · F&I & Protection Plans

Coverage, warranties, GAP, and the rest

Our Vehicle Service Contract Partners
AULGWCWise VSCHeadstart Warranty GroupAlpha Warranty
Do you offer Vehicle Service Contracts (extended warranties)?

Yes. We offer Vehicle Service Contracts on most vehicles to help protect you from unexpected repair costs after purchase.

We partner with nationally recognized providers: AUL, GWC, Wise VSC, Headstart Warranty Group (HWG), and Alpha Warranty. These plans are designed for real-world peace of mind and include:

  • Nationwide coverage accepted at thousands of repair facilities
  • Multiple coverage levels — Powertrain, Comprehensive, and Exclusionary
  • Flexible term options based on mileage and ownership plans
  • Roll-in financing available on approved plans — no interest or hidden fees

Service contracts are available at the time of purchase and can usually be rolled directly into your financing for convenience.

What is GAP coverage, and do I really need it on a used car?

GAP (Guaranteed Asset Protection) covers the difference between what your insurance pays if your vehicle is totaled or stolen and what you still owe on the loan. Without it, you’d owe that difference out of pocket on a vehicle you no longer have.

A gap typically exists when:

  • The vehicle’s market value drops faster than the loan balance — most common in the first 12–24 months
  • You financed taxes and fees
  • You made a small down payment or chose a longer term
  • You rolled negative equity from a trade-in

The premium is one-time and can usually be rolled into your loan. We’ll walk through whether it makes sense for your specific deal at the desk.

What’s the difference between Powertrain, Comprehensive, and Exclusionary coverage?

Three coverage levels for a Vehicle Service Contract, from narrowest to broadest:

  • Powertrain — covers the highest-cost mechanical components: engine, transmission, and drive axle. Lists what IS covered; anything not on the list isn’t.
  • Comprehensive — adds electrical, A/C, fuel system, steering, and many other components. Broader than Powertrain, narrower than Exclusionary.
  • Exclusionary — covered unless specifically excluded. The closest equivalent to a factory bumper-to-bumper warranty. Broadest coverage, highest price.

Each tier is offered at multiple term lengths (typically 2, 3, or 4 years) and deductible levels (commonly $100 or $250). Pricing depends on the vehicle, term, deductible, and tier — your final quote is calculated at the desk.

What is Tire & Wheel protection, and is it worth it?

Tire & Wheel coverage handles damage that standard auto insurance generally doesn’t:

  • Tire repair or full replacement from road hazards — nails, debris, potholes, and similar damage
  • Bent or cracked wheels from the same hazards
  • Mounting, balancing, and TPMS sensor replacement included in the repair
  • 24/7 roadside assistance: lockout, towing, battery jump, fuel delivery
  • Some plans include rideshare reimbursement while your vehicle is in service

Coverage details vary by plan and provider — we’ll walk you through what your specific plan covers, including curb-related damage and the specifics of your tire and wheel package. Daily commuters on local roads tend to use it more than low-mileage or highway-only drivers.

Are F&I protection products refundable if I cancel?

Yes. All of the protection products we offer — Vehicle Service Contracts, GAP, Tire & Wheel, Key, and others — are pro-rata refundable.

If you pay off the loan early, sell the vehicle, or simply change your mind, you’ll receive a refund of the unused portion of the premium. Refunds are processed through the dealership or the carrier listed on your contract. No penalty for canceling.

05 · Pricing & Transparency

How we price, what you’ll pay

How do you price your vehicles?

Our pricing is market-based and data-driven. We continuously review real-time market information from trusted industry sources such as Kelley Blue Book (KBB), CARFAX, and CarGurus, along with current local and regional pricing trends.

Each vehicle is priced individually based on factors that directly affect value:

  • Vehicle history and available service records
  • Number of previous owners
  • Reconditioning and inspection work completed
  • Mileage, condition, and equipment
  • Local demand and overall market availability

We aim to price our vehicles competitively from the start, so customers aren’t dealing with inflated numbers or unnecessary games.

What fees should I expect besides the sale price?

Every fee shows up upfront. On a typical deal, that’s:

  • Dealer Documentation Fee — $80. Covers electronic submission to lenders, lien processing, and compliance paperwork.
  • DMV Electronic Registration Fee — $29, for processing registration electronically.
  • Smog Inspection — when applicable. EVs are exempt.
  • Title & Registration — estimated based on the sale price; the actual figure is calculated at DMV registration.
  • Sales Tax — based on your registered address, not the dealership’s location.

That’s the full list. No “convenience” fees, no “prep” fees, no markups buried elsewhere.

Why don’t you negotiate much on price?

Our prices are set from the start using real-time market data — Kelley Blue Book, CARFAX, CarGurus, and current local trends. As a family-owned dealership, our overhead is lower than the large dealership groups, so the savings show up in the sticker price rather than in a negotiation cycle. The number on the windshield is the number we built the deal around.

That said, we do listen. If your offer is grounded in real market data, if you’re paying cash, or if you bring strong credit that doesn’t cost us in lender fees — we have room to have a real conversation. We just don’t inflate sticker prices for the express purpose of letting you negotiate them back down.

Do you take trade-in vehicles?

Yes. We accept trade-ins of all types. Whether you’re upgrading, downsizing, or just want to sell your vehicle, we’ll provide a competitive market-based offer.

Can I hold or reserve a vehicle with a deposit?

We operate on a first-come, first-served basis. California regulations prevent us from accepting deposits to hold vehicles. If you’re interested in a vehicle, we encourage you to visit us as soon as possible — when it’s here, it’s available; when it sells, it’s gone.

06 · Trust & Quality

What we verify before listing

What’s a CARFAX Advantage Dealer?

CARFAX is the industry leader in vehicle history reports. As a CARFAX Advantage Dealer, we provide CARFAX reports on our vehicles whenever available, so you can buy with confidence.

Are your vehicles smog certified?

Yes. Every vehicle we advertise has a valid California smog certificate prior to sale.

Is the vehicle registered when I buy it?

Every vehicle is different. Before you leave, you’ll be given a temporary registration valid for 90 days from the date of sale of the vehicle (CA Vehicle Code 4456, Section 3, Part C).

The DMV has been running behind. A vehicle may continue to be operated past 90 days as long as the owner can provide proof that an application has been submitted to the DMV and it has not been more than 14 days since permanent license plates were issued (CA Vehicle Code 4456, Section 3, Part D).

What’s the free SiriusXM Satellite Radio trial?

For a limited time, vehicles equipped with factory satellite radio include a 3-month complimentary SiriusXM trial, featuring over 150 channels of music, sports, talk, and news.

Can I submit an offer online for a vehicle?

We don’t accept every offer, and we won’t pretend we will. A reasonable, well-presented offer gets a real response from a real person, usually within a few business hours during the day. Submit an offer online →

Can I trade in a vehicle that still has a loan on it?

Yes. Trading in a vehicle with an active loan is common. Two scenarios:

  • Positive equity — your vehicle is worth more than the loan payoff. The difference becomes a credit toward your new vehicle.
  • Negative equity — your vehicle is worth less than the payoff. The difference can usually be rolled into the new loan, though it increases what you finance and may affect your monthly payment. Some lenders cap how much they’ll absorb.

Either way, we calculate the math transparently and show you exactly how the trade affects your deal. Calculate your trade-in deal →
